Dear Mr. Mc Donald:

 

I received your letter to the Coalition at my hotel room at
10:30 p.m. late in the evening of May 20, 2004. Your letter was neither requested, solicited or warranted to me or the coalition, but I will speak only for the IAM in this communication.

 

As you have not been an intimate party to these past ten weeks of 1114 negotiations, your response to the IAM virtually means 'less than nothing'.

 

Your last name is not spelled T-i-l-t-o-n, and your sole purpose was to write a self-serving legalized muse for the public's consumption and for a phony court document / exhibit to be used in the 1114 process. You wouldn't have a clue about 'good faith' bargaining if it hit you on the head like a sledge hammer.

 

The manner in which the IAM and UAL have conducted its business for many years involved a level of trust and respect, which no longer exists.

 

The conduct of the Officers and management of United Airlines thru the 1113 and 1114 process has been deceptive, devious, dishonest and dishonorable, and has destroyed what little sliver of trust and respect was left.

 

It is gone, and as we move forward in doing our business in behalf of all of our IAM Membership there will evolve a different path in the conduct of our business with the Carrier and its representatives.

 

As Mr. Tilton has stated to union leaders "management needs to do what it does and labor needs to do what it does".

 

I trust you will keep those words in mind as we move forward, and I trust I will not receive two or three more pages of your letter of the 20th, three months from now.
