Testimony and Support for HR 2327
Dear Fellow Retired Pilot:
HR 2327 has been introduced in the Congress by Rep. George Miller (D-Calif) and
Janice Shakowsky (D-Illinois). This bill would set a 6-month moratorium,
effective May 1, 2005, on the termination of pension plans by the PBGC, which
would allow the Congress and others to seek alternatives to plan terminations.
This bill, if passed, would stop the UAL/PBGC termination of the Pilots Pension
Plan. We urgently need your help for the following:
Testimony Sought for Committee:
Rep. Miller's House Committee is seeking testimony from retired United pilots
who would be seriously impacted by plan termination. If plan termination would
force you and your family to make major changes to your lives, you should offer
your testimony for the record. Please use good judgment - having to sell your
share in the Twin Baron or your 50' offshore cruiser would not be viewed with
much sympathy. Losing half or more of your pension, having to sell your home
because you can't pay the mortgage, having to take your children out of their
private college and not being able to continue paying for the care of your aged
parents, are the kinds of things that will cause most people to react with
sympathy.
Please include your full name, address, and phone number. We want to make sure
all statements are real. Only your name and hometown will be posted. For our own
purposes, we would like verifiable individual information to ensure against
imposters
If you will be badly impacted, then send your message, not to exceed 500 words,
to the following location:
2174.lounge@mail.house.gov . Please also send a copy to
URPBPA. Testimony must be
received no later than Friday, May 27, 2005, so do this right now!
Support for HR 2327:
You should contact your Representative to ask their co-sponsorship and support
of HR 2327. You should ask your two Senators to enact and support a companion
bill to HR 2327 in the Senate.
It is particularly important for all of you who live in Illinois to contact
Senators Obama and Durbin to seek their active support to write the companion
Senate bill and then lobby their colleagues for its passage. Please ask your
friends and relatives for their help with this too.
Fraternally,
Roger D. Hall
URPBPA President
