I have had a devil of a time getting through to MY Congressman, Darrell Issa, R-CA, so I sent his office a two page scalding letter! I was so pissed that my own Congressman after nearly a dozen letters had not even sent me a boiler plate reply.
I sent that letter to both his So. Cal. Office and DC office. An aide in the So. Cal office sent it to the top guy in the DC office and said “you really have an upset constituent.”
I came home at 4:30 PM yesterday and there was a message on my phone to call the DC office ASAP, I had threatened to go to the newspapers and talk radio stations if I did not receive a satisfactory reply and an explanation of why he does not respond to Constituents.
That made it 7:30PM in DC so I thought I would call today, Friday, but at 5:30PM the phone rang and it was Issa’s DC office.
WE SPOKE FOR 2 ˝ HOURS!
He told me BECAUSE of my letter Rep. Issa and his staff spent the entire day on the United issue and H.R.2327. He told me that I convinced Issa to back the bill and Issa called Miller’s office and is now CO-SPONSORING THE BILL.
Issa is the 7th Republican to co-sponsor H.R. 2327 and the aid said that he feels that the bill WILL get nearly universal backing. They are looking at it as a NON-PARTISAN PEOPLE ISSUE!!!!!!!!!!!
I spent about ˝ hour talking about how our mailing list could make better contact with Republicans. He told me it was an EDUCATION ISSUE and gave me many tips to use to better communicate. He has agreed to work with me to find the arguments that will help to get Republicans to support the bill. Issa has co-sponsored the bill so they want to see it pass.
GENTLEMEN, THERE IS HOPE! ACTUALLY, I WOULD SAY MORE THAN HOPE.
I will be sending out a summary as soon as I can get it written, basically we have to change our strategy from letters to phone calls and visits if we want to win this.
